New Japan Chemical (NJC) began operations in 1919. NJC takes great pride both in the many technological breakthroughs achieved and the customer trust earned over the years.

Global industry and society are undergoing dramatic changes. New Japan Chemical is putting its proprietary technologies to work, developing new specialty products with unprecedented properties and functions. Drawing on expertise accumulated over 80 years of operation, NJC integrates different technologies to create innovative and high-value products, such as its clarifiers for polypropylene.

RiKA International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of New Japan Chemical Company Limited, was established in 1997 in Manchester, UK. Our objective is to promote the highly innovative technology of our parent company, predominantly in the area of clarifiers and nucleators for polypropylene (PP). From the state-of-the-art technical centre, our experts offer direct technical and commercial assistance to address customers' needs for clear PP.

Clarifiers (or clarifying agents) are additives that improve the clarity, performance properties (such as heat resistance, stiffness…) and processing productivity of the resins. These developments have strongly influenced growth in PP applications over the years: food packaging, media packaging, medical devices, drinking cups, washing machines etc…

The original clarifiers based on acetal-sorbitol chemistry (MDBS) were first discovered by New Japan Chemical, and subsequently developed further at the company's extensive Kyoto R&D facilities.

In order to meet the ever increasing performance demands of today's polypropylene industry, the R&D staff at NJC developed RiKACLEAR PC1, the first non acetal sorbitol clarifier that meets all of the PP industries' requirements: transparency, stiffness, impact strength, heat resistance and excellent organoleptic properties.

All our polypropylene clarifiers and nucleators have international approvals for food contact applications.

RiKA has a sister company RiKAmerica Inc. to serve the North American markets. From our local warehousing facility we will be able to meet our customers' needs for clarified PP products professionally and efficiently.
