Clarifiers are polymer additives that improve the aesthetic appeal of transparent polypropylene, its performance properties such as heat resistance and stiffness and its processing productivity. These developments have strongly influenced the growth in a broad range of clear PP applications over the years such as food packaging, media packaging, medical devices, drinking cups, cosmetic bottles and many more.
The original clarifiers, based on dibenzylidene sorbitol (DBS), were first discovered by New Japan Chemical as a gelling agent. It was subsequently developed further at the company's extensive Kyoto R&D facilities to become the first clarifying agent for PP.
As a global supplier of polypropylene additives, we now offer one of the most extensive ranges of acetal sorbitol derivatives to adapt to the many demands of the polypropylene industry. All our polypropylene clarifiers and nucleators have international approvals for food contact applications.
